Description
The Calling, Belfast – “Calling St Anne’s”
This is the sixth of 8 pieces of artwork for Ten Square Hotel, Belfast, as well as Chimney Corner Hotel, Templepatrick. This is another piece featuring a public art installation. This one features two people perched high on top of two chairs and calling to each other. It is located at the junction of Gordon Street and Dunbar Junction. It was created by Paddy McCann in 2003. The public art piece comprises a bright red male figure calling into the distance while standing on a chair balanced on an angled pole. Adjacent is a blue female figure who calls back. The name for this artwork comes from the way in which St Anne’s Cathedral can be seen poking up from behind the buildings that form the backdrop. Its almost as if the red and blue people are “Calling St Anne’s” but just cant see where it’s hiding.
